Rural Home Life Field Trips
Students will experience the world of 19th century Florida pioneers by discovering their daily chores and community buildings in person. All students will dip a beeswax candle to take home, and have an opportunity to shop in the Cracker Country General Store.

Young learners will explore connections between long ago and today through play, dance, storytelling and hands-on activities. All groups will make and take home a textile craft, learn about history, study the parts of a chicken, explore a 1917 railroad caboose and visit a turn-of-the-20th-century Florida family's cabin.

Growing Gardeners
Date: February 26, 2021 from 10am-1pm
Discover what life would have been like for a child growing up in a Florida farming and ranching community over 100 years ago! Educators in historic dress will be on hand to welcome guests to the 1885 Carlton House, Okahumpka Depot, Terry Store, School House and more authentic structures. Young learners will explore a kitchen garden filled with plants that thrive in Florida’s winter growing season, learn about the state’s iconic citrus industry and take home ingredients to start a garden of their own.
