smithhouse

This building serves as an example of the communal spirit shown in the early days of Florida. This home was built as a wedding gift by the friends and neighbors of Daniel H. and Elizabeth (Geiger) Smith in 1894, the year of their marriage. The cabin is small and had a kitchen that was separate from the main building. Mr. Smith lived in this home until his death in 1955. The cot and trunk found in this building are original belongings of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The house was donated by the Smiths’ grandson, Willie Smith, and was relocated from eastern Pasco County. Today, it serves as a memory of the friendship and comradery that was shared by the early Floridians.
